(EN) GRASP OF SELF was created as a site-specific performance combining music, movement and poetry into one abstract story, one performative concert, one interdisciplinary momentum performed and shared by a solo performer. It explores and plays with the musical and poetic possibilities of the flauto traverso, voice and music-born-in-the-moment as a sweet challenge to the vulnerability, fears and desires of the solo performer.

(SK) GRASP OF SELF je predstavenie, ktoré bolo vytvorené pre špecifikum daného miesta, v tomto prípade galérie, a ktoré kombinuje hudbu, pohyb a poéziu do jedného abstraktného príbehu, jedného pohybového/pohyblivého koncertu, do jedného interdisciplinárneho celku interpretované sólo performerom. Predstavenie skúma a pohráva sa s hudobnými a poetickými možnosťami traversa, hlasu a hudby-daného-momentu a je tak nežnou výzvou interpretovej osamelej zraniteľnosti, strachom a túžbam.

GRASP OF SELF is named after one of my same-titled poems, exploring, questioning and re-discovering what and who is the ´self´. The performance GRASP OF SELF similarly explores the performative ´self´, the possibilities of my performance tools – flauto traverso, voice, words, movement, music written and music improvised – through the means of the performer´s physical body, where the body is both a mediator and an active participant. The combination of these diverse elements in the performance intertwines to appeal to the senses of the present audience sharing with them the intimate momentum of the creative process of real-time composition combined with the ´set´ elements.

The beautiful and exciting challenge is to use the given space as a performance partner and to interact with the objects and installations of the gallery. The performance itself can then become a journey for the performer herself, a mirror to the musical imagination and open/limited current possibilities of the moment.

GRASP OF SELF premiered on 19 February 2023 at Het Archief gallery in Rotterdam.

GRASP OF SELF je pomenované po rovnomennej básni autorky a interpretky, ktorá skúma, zotázňuje a nanovo objavuje, čo a kto je ´ja´. Predstavenie podobne skúma performatívne ´ja´ a možnosti interpretačných nástrojov – traversa, hlasu, slov, pohybu, hudby komponovanej a hudby improvizovanej – cez médium performerovho fyzického tela, pričom telo je mediátor a zároveň aktívny účastník. Kombinácia týchto rôznych prvkov sa v predstavení prelína s cieľom dotknúť sa zmyslov zúčastneného publika a zdieľať tak s ním toto momentum samotného kreatívneho procesu, ktorý prelína ´kompozíciu v reálnom čase´ s dopredu vybranými prvkami.

Jednou z krásnych a vzrušujúcich výziev GRASP OF SELF je použiť daný priestor ako partnera predstavenia a taktiež interagovať s objektami a inštaláciami galérie. Predstavenie samotné sa tak môže stať v-predstavení-prítomnou cestou pre samotnú performerku, zrkadlom jej hudobnej predstavivosti a (ne)obmedzeným možnostiam daného momentu.
