(EN) Fantasias & Abstractions is a music project by DOLU ensemble, consisting of a cycle of performances merging new and old music – 18th century (mainly) French and German music and new/contemporary music pieces – into one concert performance. An essential part of Fantasias & Abstractions is commissioning and promoting new pieces written specifically for DOLU ensemble by young emerging composers as well as by internationally established ones.
(SK) Fantasias & Abstractions je hudobný projekt DOLU ensemblu, ktorý pozostáva z cyklu koncertov spájajúcich starú a novú hudbu – francúzsku a nemeckú hudbu 18.teho storočia a novú/súčasnú hudbu – v jednom koncertnom predstavení, ktoré je netypické aj tým, že všetky skladby (staré aj nové) sú hrané na starých nástrojoch. Podstatnou súčasťou Fantasias & Abstractions je uvádzanie nových skladieb a skladieb skomponovaných špeciálne pre DOLU ensemble a spolupráca s mladými začínajúcimi skladateľmi ako aj s medzinárodne uznávanými skladateľmi.
Furthermore, this project serves as a space for ensemble´s own practice and experimentation with interpretation of both new and early music in different, less traditional ways. This experimental approach involves deconstructing a traditional way of programming (merging new and old pieces in one concert programme, while often a full piece is divided into two or more parts in between other pieces, serving as intermezzi); exploring the interpretation of chosen pieces through the performer´s own imaginations and own music understanding; attempts to push the expressivity of the music pieces beyond the established requirements of “how they should be played” and finding new, extended and expanded sonorities of their baroque instruments, seemingly pushing them “beyond” their sound limits.
The name of the programme refers to an imaginative world: listener´s own, performer´s own and a world of imagination living as such. In this programme this kind of world is created (or supported) through a wide scale of sounds of the baroque instruments, while these sonorities only serving as an opening gate into the world of fantasy and abstraction. The ´fantasy´ alludes to the baroque ´fantasia´ (or ´fantasy´) which is a music form, a piece where interpretation is left much upon the performer´s own imagination, creativity and fantasy. The ´abstraction´ refers to the abstract nature of new music as well as the abstract nature of sound as such, impossible to physically touch, yet with such a potential to be touching.

Neposledne, tento projekt slúži ako „otvorený priestor“ pre samotných hráčov, v ktorom môžu skúšať nové spôsoby hrania a využitia ich (starých) nástrojov a experimentovať s interpretáciou starej aj novej hudby inými, menej tradičnými spôsobmi. Tento experimentálny prístup zahŕňa dekonštrukciu tradičného spôsobu koncertného programu (spájanie nových a starých skladieb v jednom programe, pričom je často jedna skladba rozdelená na dve a viac častí pomedzi ostatné skladby, a teda slúži ako „intermezzi“); experimentácia s interpretáciou vybraných skladieb cez interpretovu predstavivosť a vlastné hudobné porozumenie; snaha posúvať hranice expresivity skladieb nad rámec zaužívaných spôsobov ako „by sa mali hrať“ a hľadanie novej, rozšírenej zvukovosti ich barokových nástrojov, zdanlivo posúvajúc túto zvukovosť „za hranice“ ich hrateľnosti a zvukovosti.
Názov programu odkazuje na svet imaginácie: poslucháčovej, interpretovej a imaginácie ako takej. Tento svet je vytvorený (alebo podporený) cez širokú škálu zvukov barokových nástrojov, pričom táto zvukovosť slúži iba ako akási „vstupná brána“ do sveta fantázie a abstraktnosti. ´Fantázia´ odkazuje na barokovú ´fantasiu´, čo je hudobná forma, skladbička, ktorej interpretácia je z veľkej časti ponechaná na interpretovu predstavivosť, tvorivosť a fantáziu. ´Abstraktnosť´ odkazuje na abstraktnú povahu novej hudby ako aj abstraktnú povahu zvuku ako takého, ktorého sa je nemožné fyzicky dotknúť, no s potenciálom dotknúť sa (duše) poslucháča.
