(EN) DOLU ensemble was founded in spring 2020 by two young musicians: the traverso player Dorota Matejová (Slovakia) and the violinist Lucas Bernardo (Brazil). Coming from classical music and early music environments, they began their ensemble as an occasional “musicking” which gradually developed into an urge to explore traditional 18th century repertoires beyond their usually accepted performance practice. The ensemble seeks to perform music according to, what they believe, is its true meaning: (as the base of the baroque theory of affects says) to express human passions, and to share these with their audience. These wishes lead them to experiment with the sound palette of the unusual combination of their two melodic instruments, which creates a beautiful possibility of sound colours.

Besides 18^th century duets and solos, the ensemble´s repertoire specifically focuses on study and performance of new/contemporary music for their instrument combination. Apart from studying an already existing fitting contemporary music repertoire, they are also collaborating with several music composers (Daniel Matej/SK, Hans-Martin Linde/DE, Vojtěch Šembera/CZ, Wilson Leywantono/ID, a.o.). Advocating new music for old instruments is one of DOLU ensemble´s aims. This lies in their passion for exploring their instruments seemingly “beyond their limits” and transforming their specific sonority into new imaginative and abstract sound worlds.

DOLU ensemble has performed in various more and less formal venues and spaces. Among their favourite ones it has been Slovak National gallery in Bratislava (as part of concert series Today´s Music at the SNG), Splendor in Amsterdam, Het Archief gallery Hilton art lab in Rotterdam, Kringloop shop in Rotterdam, a cafe in Redlight district in Amsterdam (as part of red light arts & culture) and many other.

(SK) DOLU ensemble vznikol na jar 2020 ako iniciatíva mladých hudobníkov traversistky Doroty Matejovej (Slovensko) a huslistu Lucasa Bernarda (Brazília). Študujúci v prostredí klasickej a starej hudby, ich duo sa postupne vyvinulo z občasného “muzicírovania” až do akéhosi nutkania skúmať tradičný repertoár 18. storočia za hranicami jeho všeobecne akceptovanej interpretácie. DOLU ensemble sa usiluje hrať a interpretovať hudbu podľa ich presvedčenia o tom, čo je jej “pravým” zmyslom: (ako hovorí základ barokovej afektovej teórie) vyjadriť ľudské vášne (“vášne duše”) a zdieľať ich (cez hudbu) so svojím poslucháčom. Tieto ich “želania” ich vedú k tomu, aby experimentovali so zvukovou paletou nezvyčajnej kombinácie ich dvoch melodických nástrojov, čo vytvára krásne možnosti zvukových farieb.

Repertoár ensemblu sa okrem interpretácie duet a sól 18. storočia špeciálne sústreďuje na štúdium a interpretáciu novej/súčasnej hudby pre ich nástrojovú kombináciu. Okrem štúdia už existujúceho vhodného repertoáru súčasnej hudby, tiež intenzívne spolupracujú s niekoľkými súčasnými skladateľmi (Daniel Matej/SK, Han-Martin Linde/DE, Vojtěch Šembera/CZ, Wilson Leywantono/ID, a ďalší). Šírenie interpretácie novej hudby na starých nástrojoch je jedným z dôležitých cieľov DOLU ensemblu. Základ tohto úsilia spočíva vo vášni pre skúmanie hry na ich nástrojoch “za hranicami ich hrateľnosti” a transformácii ich špecifickej zvukovosti do nových imaginatívnych a abstraktných svetov zvuku.

DOLU ensemble vystupovali na rôznych viac a menej formálnych miestach a priestoroch. Medzi ich obľúbené patria Slovenská národná galéria v Bratislave (v rámci koncertného cyklu Hudba dneška v SNG), legendárny Splendor v Amsterdame, galéria Het Archief v Rotterdame, Kringloop bazár v Rotterdame, kaviareň v Red light district-e v Amsterdame (ako súčasť iniciatívy red light arts & culture) a mnohé iné.

(EN) SHALL WE? is a trio that exists in multiple simultaneous sonic temporalities; it is a mystical deja-vu of a flauto traverso by Dorota Matejová, algorithmic coding texturality by Sebastián Pappalardo (aka. eerie_ear) and a voice by Tisa N. Herlec, that escapes time while tracing narratives. Symbolically, each one from this trio represents a different time zone: Dorota with its baroque flute as a revelation from the past, Sebastian with his time-escaping skill of live coding as a messenger of the future, and Tisa as a creature of the present through words and voice narratives which are born out of the moment here and now.

(SK) SHALL WE? je trio, ktoré sa pohybuje vo viacvrstvových, simultánne existujúcich zvukových temporalitách; je to mystické deja-vu traversa Doroty Matejovej, texturality algoritmického kódovania Sebastian-a Pappalardo (tiež známeho ako eerie_ear) a hlasu Tisy N. Herlec, ktorý uniká časovosti sledovaním rozprávaní, slov, myšlienok. Symbolicky, každý z tria, akosi reprezentuje inú časovú zónu: Dorota Matejová ako zjavenie z minulosti so svojou barokovou flautou, Sebastian Pappalardo ako posol budúcnosti svojim nadčasovou schopnosťou vytvárania kódov a Tisa N. Herlec ako bytosť prítomnosti cez slová a hlasové príbehy rodiace sa z momentu, ktorý je tu a teraz.

(EN) Nymphes et Monstres is a collective specialized in French baroque music, but it is also much more than that. Nymphes et Monstres is a concept of what a modern-day performance of baroque music can and should be, with a view towards a concert experience that goes far beyond the music itself. By dissecting the pieces we perform, adding declamed text, movement, and at times also video art, we have developed a concert format that manages to bring our viewers deep into the story we tell. (SK) Nymphes et Monstres je hudobný kolektív špecializujúci sa na francúzsku barokovú hudbu, no je tiež niečím oveľa viac ako to. Nymphes et Monstres je koncept toho, čím súčasná interpretácia a prezentácia barokovej hudby môže byť a má byť, zohľadňujúc koncertný zážitok, ktorý presahuje len samotnú hudobnú interpretáciu. Rozoberaním skladieb, ktoré hráme, zakomponovaním deklamovaného textu, pohybu a niekedy aj videoart-u, sme vyvinuli akýsi svojský koncertný formát, ktorý dokáže vtiahnuť našich divákov hlboko do príbehu, ktorý na pódiu rozprávame.
